Federal Agents Raid Ilhan Omar’s DC Home

Federal agents raided the Washington, D.C., home of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday morning as part of an ongoing criminal investigation involving her immigration records.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), working with the Department of Justice, conducted the October 12 operation. Sources familiar with the case said investigators are examining immigration paperwork completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child.

Agents reportedly arrived around 6 a.m., with several officers wearing HSI jackets outside the Minnesota congresswoman’s residence. Federal officials confirmed that the search had received judicial authorization.

“Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

The Justice Department subsequently confirmed that the investigation was criminal in nature but did not announce specific charges against Omar or identify the evidence investigators were seeking.

Omar’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Representatives for the White House and Department of Homeland Security also declined to discuss the operation.

The search follows statements made in September by President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, who previously acknowledged that Omar was the subject of an ongoing “criminal” investigation without identifying the specific allegations.

Omar previously maintained that DHS had not notified her of any criminal investigation. The Somali-born congresswoman immigrated to the United States as a child and became an American citizen in 2000.

Her immigration history has attracted controversy for years, including unproven allegations surrounding a 2009 marriage that critics claimed involved a family member and was intended to secure immigration benefits.

Omar has denied wrongdoing, and those allegations have not resulted in a criminal conviction. Authorities have not publicly established whether the longstanding marriage controversy is connected to the current investigation.

The congresswoman has also faced questions concerning her financial disclosures, particularly the reported value of business assets associated with her husband.

Her 2024 financial disclosure included business interests with estimated values reaching approximately $30 million, while more recent reporting reflected substantially lower figures. The difference prompted renewed scrutiny of the family’s finances.

Congressional financial disclosures generally list assets and liabilities within broad ranges rather than exact amounts. The reported discrepancies do not independently establish wrongdoing, and officials have not confirmed that Omar’s finances are connected to the investigation.

HSI, the investigative division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, handles federal offenses involving immigration fraud, financial crimes, human trafficking, smuggling and other matters. The agency regularly coordinates with Justice Department prosecutors on criminal investigations.

The operation comes approximately three weeks before the November 3 midterm elections, adding political significance to an investigation involving a sitting member of Congress seeking reelection.

Omar, a prominent progressive Democrat and frequent critic of President Trump, has repeatedly accused political opponents of targeting her because of her background and political positions.

Federal prosecutors generally take additional precautions when handling politically sensitive investigations near elections. However, the execution of a search warrant does not establish criminal guilt, and no charges against Omar had been publicly announced in connection with Monday’s operation at the time of reporting.

The Justice Department has not disclosed what investigators recovered during the search or whether additional enforcement actions are expected. The criminal investigation remains ongoing, with further details potentially emerging as federal authorities continue examining the case.
