Ex-Starbucks Worker Claims Wrongful Firing After Thwarting Robbery

via CNBC

Former Starbucks worker Michael Harris is suing the chain after being fired for helping thwart a robbery in St. Louis, Missouri.

Harris and a coworker restrained one of the suspects until police arrived.

Despite this, Harris was terminated without reason. His attorney emphasized that they acted appropriately in a dangerous scenario.

“I tried to be the best person I could to help everybody,” Harris said.

Starbucks stated that they provide de-escalation training for such situations.

“At the time of hire and once a year thereafter, all partners go through de-escalation training. Part of that training includes armed robbery scenarios where partners are asked to comply with demands and to avoid doing or saying anything that can escalate the situation,” Starbucks stated.

The incident parallels other cases where employees were fired for intervening in criminal activities, raising questions about company policies.
