Japan Reaches The Moon: Spacecraft Has Touched Down Successfully

via Sky News

Japan successfully landed a spacecraft on the moon, making it the fifth country to do so. However, a power supply issue poses a threat to the mission.

The spacecraft, SLIM, is equipped with rovers and aims to gather moon data, but its solar battery is not generating power.

The success of the mission hinges on confirming a pinpoint landing.

SLIM’s landing technology promises greater control than previous missions, and its main goal is to test new landing technology for precise moon landings.

Takeshi Tsuchiya, aeronautics professor at the Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, said, “It is necessary to show the world that Japan has the appropriate technology in order to be able to properly assert Japan’s position in lunar development.”

The mission is significant for Japan’s space technology reputation, especially following previous failures.
