A recent UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll, co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, indicates that former President Trump holds a commanding lead among likely Republican primary voters in California, with two-thirds expressing support for him.
This suggests that Trump could significantly benefit from California’s newly implemented “winner-take-all” rules, potentially securing a substantial portion of the delegates needed for the Republican nomination.
“It’s now a different ballgame, and it certainly benefits Trump if he can follow through on these numbers,” poll directory Mark DiCamillo said. (Trending: Hunter Biden’s Art Scheme Exposed By GOP Probe)
“If Trump carries California, he’s a long way toward securing the nomination.”
The poll also highlights challenges for other Republican candidates, such as Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, in gaining traction against Trump in California.
Additionally, the survey reveals mixed reception for President Biden in the state, with declining support among certain key demographics.
“He’s underwater, which is not a great place to be in a blue state,” DiCamillo said.
“Those are big changes, and they’re typically a very key Democratic constituency,” DiCamillo said of Biden’s struggle with young voters.
Despite this, Biden maintains a lead over Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head contest, as well as against Haley.
Lastly, the poll explores the varying levels of support for independent candidates Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. among California voters.
