Historically Low Number Of People Identify As Democrat: Gallup Poll

via Washington Post

In 2023, political independents made up 43% of U.S. adults, tying a record high from 2014.

Both Republicans and Democrats each constituted 27% of U.S. adults, with Democratic identification reaching a new low.

The increase in independents has come at the expense of Democrats more than Republicans.

Independents who lean Republican slightly outnumber those who lean Democratic.

Additionally, 36% of U.S. adults described their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 25% as liberal, with a notable increase in liberal identification among Democrats.

As of 2024, the parties are closely matched based on political party identification and leanings, with Democrats in a weaker position than in recent election years.
