Former President Donald Trump was allowed to speak in his civil fraud trial after Judge Arthur Engoron relented.
Trump claimed innocence, criticized the trial as a political witch hunt, and accused the judge and New York State Attorney General Letitia James of bias.

Trump said, “I did nothing wrong. They should pay me for what we’ve had to go through.”
Trump reportedly said to Judge Engoron, “I know you have your agenda.”
Judge Engoron said to Trump’s attorney, “Mr. Kise, please control your client.”
Judge Engoron asked Trump, “If I let you speak, do you promise to just stick to the law and the facts?”
“This case goes outside of just the facts,” began Trump.
“The facts are that the financial statements were perfect, the banks were as happy as can be,” he continued.
“This is not a consumer fraud. What happened here, sir, is a fraud on me,” said the former president.
“We have a situation where I’m an innocent man, I’ve been persecuted,” he insisted.
“You can’t listen for more than one minute?” said Trump after a one minute warning from the judge.
Trump later held an informal news conference, targeting James and criticizing President Joe Biden.
Trump said the prosecutor has “serious Trump Derangement Syndrome” and Joe Biden can’t “string two sentences together.”
“This is just an attorney general who hates Donald Trump,” he explained.
“This is an out-of-control attorney general. She’s totally out of control,” Trump continued.
“These loans were all good. The banks were extremely happy with me. They still are,” said Trump.
