MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart became emotional while discussing the third anniversary of the Capitol incursion, leading to mockery on social media.

The incident occurred during an interview with former Washington Metropolitan Police officer Michael Fanone, who was promoting a book about the Jan. 6, 2021 events.

Some criticized the emotional display, while others expressed support for Fanone’s efforts to defend democracy. (Trending: Chilling Arrest Footage of Trump Co-Defendant Provides Glimpse Into Jack Smith Probe)

‘I’m going to try to get through this… Thank you for what you did three years ago today…,” Capehart said.

“State propaganda has reached a new level,” Colin Rugg wrote.

“This is your ‘media’ America How pathetic,” conservative commentator Benny Jonson said.

“Despite having lived through that harrowing assault and living with the consequences of that trauma, Fanone has not stopped defending our democracy,” Capehart said.

“He has sought to hold those responsible accountable, and he has an urgent message for the American people,” he added.

“As the 2024 presidential campaign season gets underway, Fanone told HuffPost, quote, ‘Ultimately, you, the American voter, will be the last line of defense when it comes to preserving democracy as we know it and ensuring the peaceful transfer of power,’” Capeheart said.

Capehart has been open about his bias against supporters of former President Donald Trump, stating that he finds the domestic terror threat more worrisome than any foreign threat.

“I think MAGA and the domestic terror threat is much more worrisome than any foreign threat we could face,” Capehart said in 2021.
