Following a unanimous House GOP vote, Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) is now third-in-line to the president as the newly elected House Speaker.
Former President Donald Trump voiced his enthusiasm over the matter, noting that “he is a tremendous man.”
“I just want to congratulate Mike Johnson. He will be a great Speaker of the House, and we were very happy to help. I’ve known him for a long time. He is a tremendous leader. He is a tremendous man,” Trump pressed. (Poll: Who Should Win the Presidency In 2024? VOTE)
“He comes from a wonderful place, Louisiana … He’s going to be a great speaker – I think you’re going to be very proud of him.”
Johnson (R-LA) gave glory to God following his being elected as Speaker, which was confirmed following an unanimous Republican vote, which had not occurred in 12 years.
“I want to tell all my colleagues here what I told the Republicans in that room last night; I don’t believe there are any coincidences in a matter like this,” Johnson began.
“I believe that Scripture, the Bible, is very clear that God is the one that raises up those in authority. He raised up each of you, all of us, and I believe that God has ordained and allowed each one of us to be brought here for this specific moment in this time,” he said in reference to Romans chapter 13 of the Bible. “This is my belief. I believe that each one of us has a huge responsibility today to use the gifts that God has given us to serve the extraordinary people of this great country — and they deserve it — and to ensure that our republic remains standing as the great beacon of light and hope and freedom in a world that desperately needs it.”
Johnson then addressed the first bill he would pass, which would secure funding for Israel’s fight against Hamas terrorists.
“The first bill that I’m gonna bring to this floor in just a little while will be in support of our dear, dear friend Israel, and we’re overdue. And given that, we’re going to show not only Israel but the entire world that the barbarism of Hamas that we have all seen play out on our television screens is wretched and wrong. And we’re going to stand for the good in that conflict.” (Trending: Dirty Trick Inside Biden’s $100 Billion Bill)
