Canada is currently planning to make changes to its medical assistance in dying (MAID) law which will legalize the medically assisted death of drug addicts.
The expansion of the law will apply to those who suffer solely from mental illness, along with substance use disorders.

Conservative MP Ed Fast is concerned about the expansion of the law, worrying it may normalize “assisted death as an alternative treatment option.”
“Have we gone too far and too fast with Canada’s assisted suicide program? Will we evolve into a culture of death as the preferred option for those who suffer from mental illness or will we choose life?” Fast questioned.
Others have noted worries that some people may simply fake mental illness for the sake of ending their life, to which justice minister David Lametti said, “I want to assure Canadians that it isn’t just the case that you can walk off the street and seek MAID if you’re feeling depressed.”
Canada will legalize medically assisted dying for people who are addicted to drugs next spring, in a move some drug users and activists are calling “eugenics.”
