Fugitive’s Crucial Mistake Led to Arrest

via Polk County

Florida’s Polk County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement mocking a criminal who was arrested for three separate charges, and seemingly believed he could trick officers via a whiteboard message.

“One of the worst things about being a cop,” the statement began, “is you always have to be open to the possibility that people are going to lie to you. No matter how sweet and innocent they seem.”

“PCSO deputies went to a residence on West 10th Street in Lakeland, after receiving a tip that a wanted person was at the residence.”

Officers were searching for Johnny Yates, wanted for “Aggravated Battery, False Imprisonment, and Tampering in a 2nd Degree Felony.”

Officers arrived to Yates’ residence where they found a whiteboard that read, “Johnny Yates does NOT live here!!”

“Gee…a dry-erase board never lied to us before — should we believe it?” the Sheriff’s office mocked in the release.

Deputies later found Yates with a K9 unit, saying, “The dog sniffed out Yates, who was hiding in a ‘modified chest of drawers.”
