House Republicans are meeting to select their candidate for speaker.
The two candidates are Steve Scalise and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan.
It appears that Jordan will step down and put his support behind Scalise. (Trending: Joe Biden’s 2024 Chances Are Officially Dead)
I’m supporting Jim Jordan for Speaker. I’m not supporting Scalise. I like Steve Scalise, and as I said, I want him to beat cancer, and he should be focused on that.

“I don’t know if by the end of this week we will have a speaker. If you were to ask me a couple days ago, pre-Israel being horrifically attacked by Hamas, I would have told you that it would have been a month before we had a speaker,” Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., said.
Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., said, “I think there’s some [lawmakers] that have some problems with past behavior and each other, and so I think it’s going to take more than one day to get this done.”
Another element to consider is an anticipated rules vote preceding the decision on whether to elevate the threshold for selecting a speaker within the GOP conference.
Per the existing rules, a speaker nominee is determined by a simple majority vote within the party. (Trending: Why Is Biden Giving Amnesty to 700,000 Migrants?)
But over 100 lawmakers have endorsed a letter advocating for a higher threshold of 217 votes.
“That’s first thing we’ve got to consider is our rules, that’s going to be tomorrow morning, I believe,” said Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa.
Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., said, “I think that if we’re going to have a mess, we should have it in private.”
