Politico reports that two sources confirmed that former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is considering his resignation from Congress.
However, McCarthy said he has “no plans” of resigning right now.
McCarthy will at the very least remain in his congressional seat until a new speaker is chosen. (Poll: Is America Better Off Under Biden? VOTE)
This will “help the party steady itself after a seismic shakeup,” the source added.
After Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) filed a motion to vacate his position, McCarthy was ousted following a 216-210 vote.
Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-NC) will fill in until a final decision is voted upon next week.
Potential replacements include Steve Scalise (R-LA), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Kevin Hern (R-OK).
