A recent excavation has revealed the location where Jesus of Nazareth performed a miracle over 2,000 years ago.
Researchers uncovered the steps that led to the Pool of Siloam where Jesus healed a blind man.
The pool and its greater surroundings have been uncovered in the project, making it a major excavation in the world of Biblical history.
The excavation was originally begun following other findings in 2004, after which The Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel National Parks Authority and the City of David Foundation began the new dig.
Eight steps that lead down into the pool have been exposed by archaeologists, according to Fox News.
“The ongoing excavations within the City of David — the historic site of Biblical Jerusalem — particularly of the Pool of Siloam and the Pilgrimage Road, serve as one of the greatest affirmations of that heritage and the millennia-old bond Jews and Christians have with Jerusalem,” stated Ze’ev Orenstein, director of International Affairs for the City of David Foundation.
Christian say this points to how stories in the Bible are “not simply as a matter of faith, but as a matter of fact.”
“The half-mile running through the City of David, from the Pool of Siloam in the south, continuing along the Pilgrimage Road, up to the footsteps of the Western Wall, Southern Steps and Temple Mount, represents the most significant half-mile on the planet,” he added.
“There is no half-mile anywhere on Earth which means more to more people — not to millions, but to billions — than the half-mile that is the City of David,” Orenstein said.
According to Fox News, the founder of Christians United for Israel and pastor John Hagee, pointed out the importance of the site.
“The Pool of Siloam’s excavation is highly significant to Christians around the world. It was at this site that Jesus healed the blind man (John:9), and it is at this site that, 2,000 years ago, Jewish pilgrims cleansed themselves prior to entering the Second Temple. The Pool of Siloam and the Pilgrimage Road, both located within the City of David, are among the most inspiring archeological affirmations of the Bible,” Hagee said.
HISTORIC: Excavations of the biblical Pool of Siloam in @cityofdavid have begun after 18 years!
The public will soon be able to walk where #Jesus performed miracles. This pool is home to the stories of great figures of the Bible like #Solomon, Hezekiah, Isaiah, and #Jeremiah. pic.twitter.com/RKnWzg8Dcg— South African Friends of Israel (@MZANSIISRAEL) January 18, 2023
The site dates back to roughly 2,700 years, under the reign of King Hezekiah. The pool served as a water source from the Gihon Spring.
Original attempts to excavate the Pool began in 1880, after an inscription regarding King Hezekiah was discovered in the tunnel nearby.
