During the Labor Day weekend in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Chicago, tragedy struck as gun violence left a devastating toll on the city’s residents.
This devastating series of events unfolded with over 40 people falling victim to gunfire.
Nine of them tragically lost their lives.
Initially, reports showed that at least 15 individuals were shot in Chicago during this weekend.

As the situation unfolded, the gravity of the situation became even more apparent.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the number of shooting victims had risen significantly, surpassing 40, and the death toll climbed with five more individuals succumbing to their gunshot wounds.
Among these additional fatalities was a 23-year-old who had been dropped off at a firehouse after sustaining gunshot injuries. Despite efforts to save him, he ultimately lost his life while receiving medical care at a hospital.
Another heartbreaking incident occurred when a 15-year-old victim of a fatal shooting was rushed to South Shore Hospital but was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.
In another grim turn of events, a 15-year-old was shot multiple times in the 2900 block of West Walnut Street.
Despite being taken to a hospital, his injuries proved fatal.
A 27-year-old man faced a similar tragic fate when he was shot and critically wounded in a room at the YMCA located at 3333 N. Marshfield Ave.

Despite efforts to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries.
The final addition to this grim toll came when 26-year-old Daquon Rice lost his life to gun violence.
He was shot and killed in the 3800 block of South Wentworth Avenue, marking yet another devastating loss in a weekend marred by violence in the city of Chicago.
