The domination of U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) came to an abrupt end as the team lost to Sweden in the 2023 World Cup. The team has won four FIFA Women’s World Cups (1991, 1999, 2015, and 2019), four Olympic gold medals (1996, 2004, 2008, and 2012), and eight CONCACAF Gold Cups.
In the aftermath, when asked about what she will remember most about her time playing soccer, star player Megan Rapinoe replied it was “probably [the] equal pay chants after the final” in 2019.
Rapinoe missed a penalty kick that sailed high over the net in their loss against Sweden. In 2019, she made headlines for saying she’ll “probably never sing the National Anthem again.” (Trending: Trump Releases ‘Ad of the Year’)
At the time, Rapinoe kneeled during the National Anthem in solidarity with former NFL player Colin Kaepernick’s protest against America. She also said that she would “never put my hand over my heart” during the playing of the National Anthem.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist and retired soccer star Hope Solo says Rapinoe bullied her teammates into disrespecting the National Anthem.
Before their opening 2023 FIFA match, the entire team passionately sang Vietnam’s national anthem called “Song of a Marching Army. All eleven athletes sang in unison with their right hands proudly held over their hearts.
In stark contrast, the team remained silent during the playing of the U.S. National Anthem. Six of the 11 American soccer players refused to place their right hand on their hearts during the “Star Spangled Banner.”
Many fans have accused the team of disrespecting America by following along with Rapinoe’s antics and far-left social activism.
“A teary-eyed Rapinoe looked back at her career following the loss to Sweden on Sunday, recounting the moment fans were heard chanting ‘equal pay, equal pay’ during the US’s 2-0 victory over the Netherlands in 2019,” the report said. (Trending: FBI Caught Lying For Hunter Biden)
“She said on Sunday that she believes that campaign for equal pay ‘has changed the world forever,'” the report added.
Rapinoe told FOX Sports: “I think this team has always fought for so much more, and that’s been the most rewarding part for me.”
“Of course, playing in the World Cup and winning championships and doing all that, but to know that we’ve used our really special talent to do something that’s really changed the world forever, I think that means the most to me,” she said.
“The players in this locker room here are just getting started,” Rapinoe added, “all the players I’ve worked with, obviously, you know, know what it’s like to be in the grind. That’s the best part.” Rapinoe previously announced that she is retiring at the end of this season.
