Texas Democrat Maureen Galindo, a South Texas sex therapist, was defeated in her primary runoff Tuesday against Bexar County official Johnny Garcia.
Galindo drew widespread condemnation from House Democrats, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, after suggesting ICE detention centers in the district be used as prisons for “American Zionists.”
Party leaders called the remarks “vile,” “antisemitic,” and “disqualifying.”
The newly redrawn 35th Congressional District, previously held by Squad member Rep. Gregorio Casar, is now considered more favorable to Republicans.
