AUSTIN, Texas — Cristian Mondragon-Fajardo, a 17-year-old illegal immigrant, is one of three suspects charged in a chaotic overnight crime spree involving 12 separate shootings across Austin on May 16, 2026.

The rampage left three people injured and one in critical condition, with gunfire striking two Austin Fire Department stations, three fire trucks, five vehicles, and four homes. Authorities say the group also stole five cars and at least one firearm.

Mondragon-Fajardo faces six felony charges, including aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle, theft of a firearm, and evading arrest.

He is being held without bond. An ICE detainer has been placed on him following his arrest.

The two other suspects, ages 15 and 16, have not been publicly named.

The incident has sparked criticism of Austin’s leadership and local policing policies.
