Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson tweeted “No voter should have to choose between their health & their vote. And every Michigan citizen has a right under our state constitution to vote by mail. With funding from the federal CARES act, I am ensuring every registered voter has the tools to conveniently exercise that right.”
Per Michigan.gov Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson just announced that all registered voters in Michigan will receive an application to vote by mail for the upcoming election, according to The Conservative Opinion.
“By mailing applications, we have ensured that no Michigander has to choose between their health and their right to vote,” said Benson. “Voting by mail is easy, convenient, safe, and secure, and every voter in Michigan has the right to do it.”
“We appreciate that some clerks are proactively protecting public health by mailing applications to all their registered voters, and we are fulfilling our responsibility to provide all voters equal access,” said Benson. “We know from the elections that took place this month that during the pandemic Michiganders want to safely vote.”
“The vast majority of voters across the political spectrum want the option to vote by mail,” said Benson. “Mailing applications to all registered voters is one of the ways that we are ensuring Michigan’s elections will continue to be safe, accurate and secure.”
Actress Alyssa Milano tweeted “US can make voting safer during the pandemic. Don’t let Republicans stop it.” and shared a link to her Op-Ed on CNN.
Benson replied “Yes. Well said @Alyssa_Milano: “In uncertain times, when kids don’t know when they’ll be back in school, parents struggle to balance working & distance learning, & everyone is worried about protecting their health, voting should be easy. We have the tools & experience to do it.””

On April 8, Trump posted on Twitter, “Republicans should fight very hard when it comes to state wide mail-in voting. Democrats are clamoring for it. Tremendous potential for voter fraud, and for whatever reason, (it) doesn’t work out well for Republicans.”

But some Republicans, including President Donald Trump, who won Michigan by less than two-tenths of 1% of the vote four years ago and is up for reelection in November, have argued against widespread voting by mail.
