A federal judge in Missouri has dismissed a lawsuit filed by U.S. Olympian fencer Margherita Guzzi Vincenti and two other female fencers against USA Fencing.
The suit alleged that biological males were allowed to compete in women’s and girls’ events at the 2025 North American Cup in Kansas City.
Judge Fernando J. Gaitan Jr. ruled the plaintiffs failed to state a valid Title IX claim, noting they did not allege they actually competed against transgender athletes or were denied benefits because of their sex.
USA Fencing welcomed the dismissal.
The organization updated its policy last July to bar transgender women from women’s competitions, aligning with new U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee rules.
