Jack Smith Spotted Wearing Anti-Trump Shirt at Left-Wing Event

Former special counsel Jack Smith was photographed at a politically charged music festival in Maryland wearing a Bruce Springsteen shirt emblazoned with the phrase “No Kings.” Critics have long-speculated that Smith’s prosecutions of Donald Trump were politically biased because former AG Merrick Garland appointed him special counsel three days after Trump announced his 2024 campaign.

The cases against Trump were pushed toward trial in an election year, and investigators sought phone records of Republican lawmakers. Trump has called the indictments a corrupt effort to damage his campaign. Despite Smith’s denial of partisan motive, critics say his decision to sport this t-shirt removes all doubt.

Smith attended the Power to the People Fest at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Photos and videos posted by attendees showed him moving through the crowd, talking with concertgoers and posing for pictures. In some of the footage, Smith could also be seen holding a beer while speaking with people nearby.

One person who attended the event told The Daily Beast that Smith was taking selfies with “fans” throughout the festival. The black shirt Smith wore was tied to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour.

It prominently featured the words “No Kings,” a phrase that has become associated with demonstrations opposing President Donald Trump and his use of executive authority. The festival itself featured several musicians who have been outspoken critics of Trump and Republican policies.

Performers included Springsteen, the Foo Fighters and Joan Baez. Organizers promoted the event as a way for Americans to use music, political participation and civic action to influence the direction of the country.

A portion of ticket proceeds was also designated for VoteRiders, an organization that assists people with voter-identification issues.

During his performance, Springsteen played “Streets of Minneapolis” and criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement from the stage.

The festival’s political tone continued in the closing remarks.

Tom Morello told the audience he hoped they had been “energized, radicalized, revolutionized, democratized.”

Smith also received a public shoutout during the Foo Fighters’ set.

Singer Dave Grohl dedicated “My Hero” to “my new friend Jack” while Smith was in attendance.

Grohl also referenced questioning Smith faced from Sen. Eric Schmitt during a Senate hearing earlier in the week.

The concert appearance came shortly after Smith returned to the public spotlight through that Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

Smith has repeatedly maintained that his investigations involving Trump and Trump allies were driven by evidence and the law rather than partisan politics.

In his final report, Smith said neither he nor his prosecutors acted for political reasons and described the office’s “north star” as following the facts and the law.

He has also rejected accusations that politics influenced the prosecutions.

At an October 2025 appearance, Smith called such claims “ludicrous.”

During the September 29, 2026, Senate hearing, Smith again said he held no partisan loyalty and argued that he would have pursued the same charges against a Democrat under the same set of facts.

His appearance at a festival filled with anti-Trump themes and performers therefore drew added attention, particularly because of the “No Kings” shirt and the enthusiastic reception he received from some attendees.
