There are multiple significant developments amid the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., The Washington Post reports.
The Federal Reserve has made an emergency interest rate cut to zero on Sunday night, the report adds.
Fox News clarified the benchmark federal fund rate is now “at a range of 0 to 0.25 percent, down from a range of 1 to 1.25 percent.”
This cut “essentially brings the nation’s interest rate to zero,” Fox News adds.
President Trump has reportedly pressed for this change over the past year.
Further, officials in Ohio and Illinois have ordered the statewide closure of bars and restaurants to combat the coronavirus.
Governments around the globe are making tough decisions to keep their citizens safe, including enacting strict travel restrictions, shutting down nonessential businesses, closing schools and instituting quarantines, as deaths in Italy and Spain skyrocketed in the last 24 hour.
Countries are becoming more insular, banning travelers from places with confirmed coronavirus cases, and some have instituted nationwide lockdowns.
