There’s been a lot of media and attention to the newly passed abortion ban in Alabama, except for the life of the mother.
But on Wednesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) started spreading falsehoods about that the law says, claiming that it would have women locked up for having abortions.
From Daily Wire:
“Alabama lawmakers are making all abortions a felony punishable w [jail time], [including] women victimized by rape+incest,” claimed AOC. “Of course, no added punishments for rapists. It’s going to [Governor Kay Ivey’s] desk. She will decide the future of women’s rights in Alabama.”
This was of course false, as the law sets out.
Did she not even read the law?
Third-party abortionists would be prosecuted under the new law, not mothers. One America News Network’s Liz Wheeler called out the 29-year-old: “This is a lie,” she replied. “Under no circumstances would women be jailed for abortions. The abortionist would be penalized.”
“Tell the truth, [AOC],” Wheeler continued. “You’re trying to scare women into supporting abortion. Why don’t you tell the truth & see if women support your extreme abortion agenda then?”
Ocasio-Cortez tried to argue she wasn’t lying.
Ocasio-Cortez then tried to argue the was talking about prosecution of women if they were the abortionists.
Of course, that isn’t what she said, so it was a pretty poor excuse.
Who’s the one making bad faith claims? And was it not AOC who said that being morally right was more important than being factually correct? In her case, she is neither of those things. What she is, however, is shamelessly dishonest.
