NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio has been planning on running for president for a long time. He even considered it back in 2016.
But now he’s finally made it official, with a formal announcement video released Thursday morning.
And what was the very first thing out of his mouth? His radical call for “redistributing money.”
“There’s plenty of money in this world. There’s plenty of money in this country, it’s just in the wrong hands,” de Blasio says as the video opens.
He definitely comes in on the more radical end of the spectrum. And he pushes his ability to go after President Donald Trump.
Earlier in the week, he tried to go after the president by setting up an event at Trump Tower, likely trying to burnish his credibility with the Democratic voter base. But it ended up being a big fail when Trump supporters ended up stealing his thunder and the visuals.
He’s also not very well-liked even in the very liberal New York City, with many believing things have gotten worse under his leadership.
New Yorkers are not supportive of him running.
And he’s not polling very high among the Democratic candidates, but he may be just high enough with 1% to make the debate stage.
