President-elect Donald Trump’s decisive 2024 victory left Democrats blaming George Clooney for the chaotic primary and Kamala Harris’ inability to win over voters. Clooney had written a New York Times op-ed urging President Joe Biden to step aside, endorsed Harris, and recorded campaign ads aimed at working-class voters.
Sen. Bernie Sanders criticized the Democratic Party for “abandoning the working class,” while Nancy Pelosi rejected his claims, defending the party’s priorities and policies.
The Harris and Biden campaigns ultimately blamed each other for the loss. Harris allies cited Biden’s late exit and low approval, while Biden supporters questioned Harris’ staggering campaign spending.
Strategist James Carville suggested Harris’ inability to differentiate herself from Biden during an interview on “The View” symbolized the campaign’s broader struggles.
Critics also pointed to Barack Obama’s delayed endorsement of Harris and alleged interference in Biden’s departure as factors that contributed to the party’s loss.
Reports have claimed that Obama used Clooney to push Biden out of the race, leaving him to take the blame for Harris’ defeat and the Democrats’ election disaster. Clooney, facing backlash from Democrats, has since vowed to step back from political activism after being scapegoated for the party’s poor performance in the election.
One inside source stated, “George feels he stepped up and took a bullet for the team, and now everyone’s complaining about the bloodbath.”
“Lots of celebrities, like Beyoncé, were on the campaign trail pumping up Kamala, but George became the face of the Hollywood liberals by directly calling for Biden to end his campaign and throwing the whole process into chaos,” the source added.
The Democrats’ reliance on star power in politics has faltered, with Clooney emerging as a symbol of the party’s struggle to connect with the average voter. “He thinks Obama should come forward and say that George did the right thing and it isn’t his fault that it didn’t work out,” the source said.
“But he doesn’t expect that will be forthcoming. and it’s left George feeling like a patsy,” they added.
