Walmart has revealed major policy changes following talks with commentator Robby Starbuck, shifting away from programs that are seen as endorsing progressive values.
The company will discontinue its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, close its Racial Equity Center, and end participation in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
Walmart plans to remove certain products marketed to children that promote transgender identities and will stop using the term “Latinx” in its communications.
These changes are framed as a shift towards “corporate neutrality” in response to growing conservative criticism of corporate wokeness.
“I am simply advocating for corporate neutrality,” Starbuck explained. “I believe that that is the future because I understand there are people in this country who do not agree with my politics so it would not be fair of me to force my politics on them the same way that I am not okay with left-wing policies being forced on me and people like me via things like DEI.”
