Tom Homan, who has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be the “border czar,” cautioned Democrats that resisting mass deportations of undocumented immigrants would be against federal law.
He criticized Boston Mayor Michelle Wu for her refusal to cooperate with deportation efforts, emphasizing that mayors have a responsibility to protect their communities.
Homan referenced Title 8, United States Code 1324, which makes it a crime to harbor illegal aliens, carrying penalties of up to 10 years in prison or even the death penalty if an innocent person is harmed as a result.
He stressed that his administration would prioritize public safety and enforce immigration laws.
“Well, she’s not very smart, I’ll give her that. Because what I just said is that President Trump is going to prioritize public safety threats,” Homan said.
“What mayor or governor doesn’t want public safety threats out of their communities?”
“There’s a clear line here, and they can’t cross a clear line,” Homan said. “I would suggest she read Title 8, United States Code 1324 (iii) that says you can’t harbor or conceal an illegal alien from federal law enforcement.”
“There are certain laws in place that they can’t cross, and I hope she doesn’t cross it,” Homan reiterated.
