Jon Voight has criticized his daughter, Angelina Jolie, for her pro-Palestinian stance, calling her “ignorant” and “naive” regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict.
In an interview with Variety, the 85-year-old actor suggested that Jolie has been influenced by “anti-Semitic people” and exposed to propaganda, particularly through her connections with the United Nations.
Voight expressed concern that Jolie does not grasp the true stakes of the situation, asserting that many activists, including her, are misinformed about the complexities of the conflict.
He reiterated his love for her but emphasized his disapproval of her views, which he believes promote anti-Israel sentiments.
“She has been exposed to propaganda,” Voight said. “She’s been influenced by antisemitic people. Angie has a connection to the UN [United Nations], and she’s enjoyed speaking out for refugees. But these people are not refugees.”
“She’s ignorant of what the real stakes are and what the real story is because she’s in the loop of the United Nations,” he added, calling out the “naive” activists who claim there are millions of Palestinian refugees in the West Bank and Gaza, the outlet noted.
“They’re dupes who never get outside of their bubble,” Voight added. “She doesn’t really want to share this kind of stuff, because she’s of another mind about it.”
The “fact is, I think she has been influenced by the UN. From the beginning, it’s been awful with human rights. They call it human rights, but it’s just anti-Israel bashing.”
“But that cannot justify the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go, no access to food or water, no possibility of evacuation, and not even the basic human right to cross a border to seek refuge,” Jolie wrote.
Jolie’s statements following the October 7 terrorist attack highlighted her concerns about civilian casualties in Gaza, but she has not publicly addressed her father’s criticisms.
“I am very disappointed that my daughter, like so many, has no understanding of God’s honor, God’s truths,” Voight said previously.
“This is about destroying the history of God’s land, the Holy Land, the Land of the Jews. This is justice for God’s children of the Holy Land,” he added.
