Iran Following Assassination Attempt: ‘Trump is a Criminal Who Must be Prosecuted’

via ABC

Iran has refuted any involvement in an alleged assassination plot against former President Donald Trump following reports from U.S. intelligence agencies suggesting Iranian ties to the scheme.

Despite intelligence awareness of such a plot, no links have been established between the identified gunman, Matthew Crooks, and Iran’s alleged involvement.

The Iranian Mission to the United Nations dismissed the accusations as baseless, emphasizing their pursuit of legal avenues to hold Trump accountable for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani.

“From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Trump is a criminal who must be prosecuted and punished in a court of law for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani,” the Iranian Mission stated. “Iran has chosen the legal path to bring him to justice.”

“The Secret Service and other agencies are constantly receiving new potential threat information and taking action to adjust resources as needed,” Secret Service Communications Chief Anthony Guglielmi said.

“We cannot comment on any specific threat stream other than to say that the Secret Service takes threats seriously and responds accordingly,” he added.

Investigators are still exploring motives behind Crooks’ assassination attempt, noting his limited social media presence and an account on Discord that showed no evidence of premeditated planning or political discussions.

“We have identified an account that appears to be linked to the suspect; it was rarely utilized and we have found no evidence that it was used to plan this incident or discuss his political views,” a Discord spokesperson stated.
