A recent poll by USA Today/Suffolk University revealed that 41% of Democrat voters want President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race, with only 51% supporting his continued candidacy.
The poll indicates dissatisfaction with Biden’s debate performance and a preference for a different candidate on the Democratic ticket.
“There’s no question the debate sent out shockwaves across the political landscape,” Suffolk Political Research Center director David Paleologos said.
“Democrats in the poll are offering tough love to President Biden by saying to him, ‘You’ve served us well, but try to see yourself last Thursday night through our eyes. Hold your head up high, it’s time to go,’” he added.
Former President Donald Trump was perceived as the winner of the debate by a five-to-one ratio among those polled, with concerns raised about Biden’s coherence and Trump being seen as more truthful and honest.
Despite calls for Biden to step down, he plans to remain in the race, supported by his family members, and is implementing a new public relations strategy to bolster his candidacy.
