Greta Thunberg Arrested at The Hague During Extinction Rebellion Protest

via Channel 4 News

Greta Thunberg was arrested at an Extinction Rebellion protest in The Hague over lack of climate action.

Thunberg, among the first arrested for blockading a road, said her arrest was uncomplicated but the goal is climate, not arrests.

“But that’s not what it’s about, I’m here for the climate goal,” Thunberg said.

“It has been promised to take action for decades. That doesn’t happen. We’ll see if it works now.”

Extinction Rebellion has been protesting for months against the Dutch government’s supposedly insufficient climate policies and demand to end fossil fuel subsidies.

Thunberg, who gained fame in 2018 for weekly school strikes outside Sweden’s parliament, has been arrested previously at climate demonstrations, including last year outside a London oil and gas conference.

While criticized by some, Thunberg and supporters argue disruptive tactics are necessary to compel more significant climate policy changes from governments.
