Donald Trump: Potential Conviction Could Make Me ‘More Popular’

via Donald J. Trump

Donald Trump warned that a potential conviction in the New York civil fraud case could increase his popularity ahead of a 2024 presidential run.

He cited polling showing over half of voters believe the legal actions against him are politically motivated.

Trump said testifying would not be an issue and a conviction may make him “more popular” as people see it as a “scam.”

“I would have no problem testifying. I didn’t do anything wrong,” Trump said.

“It could also make me more popular because the people know it’s a scam,” Trump added.

“This is all about election interference. This is all Biden-run … meaning Biden and his thugs because I don’t know if he knows he’s alive,” Trump said. Biden “can’t win an election because of the borders, because of energy prices, because of inflation, because of Afghanistan,” he said. “So what they do is they do election interference.”

Pollsters like Frank Luntz have similarly argued any indictments could fuel Trump’s victimhood narrative and lift his support.

“You’re going to create the greatest victimhood of 2024, and you’re going to elect Donald Trump,” Luntz said. “If they take his stuff, he’s going to say that this is proof that the federal government and the establishment and the swamp in Washington and all the politicians across the country and the attorneys generals [sic] and all of this, that this is a conspiracy to deny him the presidency,” Luntz added. “He’s going to go up in the polls, just like he went up every single time they indicted him.”

Recent Harvard polling found that if Trump was convicted by a jury, 54% would still vote for him over Biden in 2024.

The appeals court reduced Trump’s bond to $175 million and delayed enforcement of the $464 million judgment, which Trump said he would be “honored” to post.

“It will be my honor to post [the bond],” Trump said.
