On the night of President Biden’s 2022 State of the Union address, the social media platform Truth Social, owned by Donald Trump, experienced widespread outages preventing many users from accessing the site.
The outages peaked around an hour before Biden’s speech began and lasted into his remarks.
Former Trump officials mocked him on other platforms for not being able to live fact check Biden as he had promised due to the technical issues.
“Trump said he’d be live fact-checking Biden’s SOTU but Truth Social appears to be down. Sad!” former Trump White House Press Secretary Alyssa Farah Griffin wrote on X.
On Fox News, an anchor invited Trump to call in instead of just posting on Truth Social.
“If the former president wants to call in,” anchor Bret Baier said. “We’re happy to put him [on] instead of just reading Truth Social posts.”
For those who could access the site, Trump largely posted negative reactions to people mentioned in Biden’s speech, including Mitt Romney and accusing Biden of disrespecting the country for not starting on time.
“Thankfully, we don’t have to be looking at RINO Mitt Romney much longer!” Trump wrote.
He also criticized Biden’s demeanor and claimed his words were not flowing smoothly.
The outages highlighted the issues still plaguing Truth Social since its launch.
