Georgia State Senate Greenlights Investigation into Fani Willis for Alleged Corruption

via Atlanta News First

The Georgia State Senate approved a subpoena-powered investigation into Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis by a 30-19 vote.

The investigation follows allegations of misconduct and corruption during her prosecution of former President Donald Trump.

The Senate committee, comprising nine senators, will have subpoena power and will focus on securing witnesses and documents related to Willis.

This move is part of ongoing efforts to hold the prosecutor accountable, with a judge ordering Willis to respond to corruption accusations in writing by February 2 and to speak about the allegations on television on February 15.

Georgia Lieutenant Gov. Burt Jones wrote, “The Georgia legislature has a responsibility to hold public officials accountable.”

“Recent reports have been deeply troubling, and I appreciate Sen. Dolezal’s leadership on this issue,” he continued.

Willis and her lead prosecutor are expected to be subpoenaed about allegations of an affair during an ongoing and unsealed divorce case.
