Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential candidate, has been advocating for term limits and mental competency tests for elected officials over the age of 75.
She emphasized the need for leaders making critical decisions to be at the top of their game.
Haley has targeted President Biden and former President Trump, both in their 70s, and has called for a “younger generation” of congressional leaders.
“Don’t you think it’s finally time we had term limits in Washington, D.C.?” Haley said.
“Don’t you think we need to have mental competency tests for anyone over the age of 75?”
“Now let me say this, I’m not being disrespectful when I say that. We all know 75-year-olds that can run circles around us,” she added. “And then we know Joe Biden, Congress has become the most privileged nursing home in the country.”
She renewed her call for mental competency tests after a mix-up involving Trump and herself, and despite trailing in national polling, she remains committed to challenging Trump in the race.
