Why a historic Mayorkas impeachment might not matter

via CBS

House Republicans are moving to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, with a committee vote expected by January 31.

This effort is seen as a political move, with Senate Republicans simultaneously working on an immigration deal with Mayorkas.

However, legal experts argue that the grounds for impeachment are weak, and the Senate is unlikely to convict Mayorkas.

Some swing-district Republicans are open to the impeachment process, but it’s unclear if it will gain enough support.

Ultimately, even if Mayorkas is impeached and convicted, it may not lead to significant policy changes.
