via Turlock Police Department

Gerad Slayton, the executive director of a California LGBTQ nonprofit, was arrested in a police sting operation targeting suspected online child predators.

Slayton and 16 others were arrested for attempting to meet underage children for sex.

Turlock Police Det. Gina Giovacchini, said, “Thank you to our partnering agencies who took part in this operation.”

“Without their collaborative efforts, this operation wouldn’t have been nearly as successful as it was. Their assistance helped keep our youth safe. Keeping our children safe from predators will continue to be my number one priority,” she continued.

The Rainbow Resource Center, where Slayton was recently appointed, expressed seriousness about the allegations and emphasized that his actions occurred outside of work.

Rainbow Resource Center posted on Facebook, “Mr. Slayton’s actions do not represent our organization’s values or mission.”

“In accordance with our unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and integrity, we are addressing the issue with the Rainbow Resource Center,” the nonprofit continued.

Slayton pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 29.
