Huntington Beach, California, known as a conservative stronghold, has decided to replace separate month-long celebrations for identity groups with a united celebration of the town’s history.

The City Council has directed the development of a history program focusing on the city’s founding, the discovery of oil, and local libraries, effectively canceling formal celebrations of Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and Pride Month in 2024.

A new committee will be formed to develop future programs, with officials leaving open the possibility of adding identity-focused celebrations in the future.

The city has a history of opposing left-wing policies in California, including beach closures, mask and vaccine mandates, “sanctuary state” laws, and mandatory low-income housing.
