Locals Outraged After Town Officials Approve Flying Palestinian Flag

North Andover, Massachusetts officials approved the flying of a Palestinian flag on the Town Common until Dec. 7, following a rescheduled board meeting due to reported threats and public safety concerns.

The decision was prompted by a resident’s argument that if Israel can fly its flag, Palestinians deserve the same right.

The town’s policy change now restricts the use of the flagpole to statements of governmental speech, disallowing other culture-related flags. (Trending: Photos Released Of Cocaine Found In White House)

“According to the decision in the Shurtleff case, the Town may not prohibit a flag to be flown based on its content, its meaning or its message,” Rodrigues explained.

Adding, “This limitation on the Select Board’s discretion indicates that denial of a resident’s flag application under the prior policy places the Town in jeopardy of legal action.”

The approval sparked controversy, with some residents expressing disgust and concern, while others supported the decision.

Some residents, like Congregation Ahavat Olam president, Marc Freedman believes that “The town was a coward,” for flying the Palestinian flag.

“I don’t believe the flag should have been raised because today it is a symbol of hatred and antisemitism,” insisted the 57 year old North Andover resident.

Similar actions have occurred in Worcester, Massachusetts, and New York City.
