Massive Crowd Attracts Over 100K Against Antisemitism

via CBS New York

Over 100,000 people protested in Paris against the recent rise in antisemitism in France following Hamas-led attacks in Israel. French officials reported 1,247 antisemitic acts since the attacks.

French President Macron expressed support for the protest and promised prosecution for antisemitic acts.

President Macron encouraged French citizens to fight “the unbearable resurgence of unbridled antisemitism.”

“A France where our Jewish fellow citizens are afraid is not France,” Macron said in a letter published in Le Parisien newspaper.

Macron asked his citizens to remain “united behind its values … and work for peace and security for all in the Middle East.”

Adding that he would not attend the protest in person, but he will be there in “heart and spirit”.

The protest was attended by political figures and aimed to address the increase in anti-Jewish acts.

Patrick Klugman, a lawyer and member of “Freethem” committee, that is working for release of the hostages being held from Hamas spoke about the protests.

“I am very proud of my country because of this mobilization,” Klugman exclaimed.

Adding, “I feel less alone than in the past weeks and days.”

Similar protests and rallies have taken place around the world.
