Cori Bush Blames Congress For Slavery In Bizarre Rant

via Forbes Breaking News

Rep. Cori Bush delivered an impassioned speech defending Rep. Rashida Tlaib on the House floor, criticizing the plan to censure Tlaib for her comments on Israel and Hamas.

Bush’s speech veered into a condemnation of Congress, claiming it had “enslaved black people” and addressing various issues.

Critics labeled her remarks as an “unhinged rant” and pointed out historical inaccuracies in her claims about Congress and slavery. (Trending: Meet The Ultra Rich Megadonors Behind Democrats)

Referring to Rashida Tlaib, Bush said, “It’s outrageous that my colleagues are blatantly — blatantly — attempting to silence the only Palestinian American representative right here.”

“It’s outrageous, but it’s not surprising.”

“Let me tell you, it’s not surprising because this place … is where 1,700 members … this elected body … enslaved black people,” she continued.

“It’s not surprising, because they thought it was right.”

Bush’s speech continued even after her time expired and her microphone was cut off.

“It’s not surprising because this is the place … where members continue to claim that the insurrection … on the Capitol … just looked appeared to look … like a normal tourist visit, it’s not surprising … because this is the place … where our black and brown staff members repeatedly speak … of experiencing racism and sexism … islamophobia, get pushed off of elevators.”

“Xenophobia and more right here in this workplace,” she shouted. “This is the place.”

“This place is where 1700 members of Congress enslaved black people,” she said.

A fact check shows there were never 1700 members of Congress. In reality, 230 members of Congress freed slaves in 1863.
