Police in South Australia are searching for the body of a surfer who is believed to have been killed in a fatal shark attack.

Witnesses reported seeing a shark attack the man while he was surfing near Granites Beach.

“(The shark) grabbed him, pulled him back down, brought him back up, pulled him back down again,” one witness reported.

Although the type of shark has not been confirmed, a witness believes it was a 13-foot great white shark.

Authorities are urging caution for those in the area, as sharks are known to frequent the waters along South Australia’s coast.

“Anyone who is going to be surfing or taking to the water in this area really does need to be aware of the risks and I think, in the main, most people are,” Police Superintendent Paul Bahr stated.
