Rep. Cori Bush Can’t Explain Tax Code, Gets GRILLED

via CBS

Congresswoman Cori Bush, a member of the “Squad,” was unable to defend her support for higher taxes on the rich when challenged on the effective tax rate.

In a discussion with a Fox News reporter, she struggled to provide a clear answer and made some notable statements.

The reporter pointed out that the effective tax rate on the poor is actually lower than on the rich.

“What percentage of a fair share?” asks the reporter.

“If- if a third of my money is going to taxes, then I think a third of their money should be going to taxes,” Bush replies.

“It does,” he shot back.

“Well, it does…” she starts before smiling.

“You realize the effective tax rate on the poor is less than it is on the rich, right?” he asks.

“OK, so… first of all, um, I’m not the poor,” she says. “I’m very close to that line, but I’m not the poor.”

Rep. Bush has a base salary of around $174,000. The average income for her Missouri district is $51,529.

Rep. Bush tried to distance herself from being considered “poor” despite her high salary as a member of Congress.

She has previously made controversial claims about race, transgender individuals, white supremacy, and has hired questionable staffers.
