Attorneys in Colorado and Minnesota are arguing in court to disqualify former President Donald Trump from running for office again, citing his alleged role in the Capitol riot as a violation of the Constitution’s insurrection clause.
The cases revolve around the interpretation of Section Three of the 14th Amendment, which prohibits individuals who engaged in insurrection against the Constitution from holding higher office.
Trump’s legal team claims the lawsuit is a Democratic attempt to undermine his presidential bid.

“This is a legal Hail Mary by the Democrats,” said attorney Mike Davis “This case is going to fail.”
One of Trump’s attorneys, Scott Gessler, said the lawsuit is simply “anti-democratic.”
The outcome of these cases could potentially reach the U.S. Supreme Court, as the provision in question has never been ruled upon by the Court.
