During his first public appearance since going viral, Anthony shared a Bible verse with fans who came to see him perform. “Before we start singing, and I mean we, ’cause I hope y’all are gonna be singing too. I just had something I felt compelled to share with you,” he explained.

“This is in Psalms, Psalms 37, 12 – 20. The wicked plot against the righteous and nash their teeth at them. But the Lord laughs at the wicked for he knows their day is coming. The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright.”

“But their swords will pierce their own hearts and their bows will be broken. Better the little that have righteousness than the wealth of many wicked. For the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous,” Anthony continued. “The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care and their inheritance will endure forever. In times of disaster, they will not wither and in days of famine, they will have plenty. But the wicked will perish.”

“Though the Lord’s enemies are like the flowers of the field, they will be consumed and they will go up in smoke,” he said.

Anthony expressed his gratitude on social media by thanking his “awesome” fans for the sudden success. Anthony says this is part of his “purpose” in life. He vows to continue making music “at all costs, no matter what.”

Left-wing magazine Rolling Stone slammed Anthony’s success by claiming it’s a country song that “right-wing influencers are losing their minds over.”

Rolling Stone wrote, “Right-wing influencers are losing their minds over a new country song that just appeared on streaming services today.”

“‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ is a passionate screed against the state of the country sung by Oliver Anthony, who identifies as a farmer living off the grid with his three dogs in Farmville, Virginia,” the article reads.

Anthony began writing his own music in 2021. He explained that “Rich Men North of Richmond” was his “first song to get out there that has been recorded on a real microphone and a real camera, and not just on my cell phone.”

Anthony is a former factory worker and his popular song criticizes politicians in Washington, D.C., who “make life a little more difficult than it should be.”
