With the third criminal indictment against former President Donald Trump, Americans learned that U.S. special counsel Jack Smith violated Trump’s First Amendment rights and executive privilege.
Smith sought a search warrant and demanded that X, formerly Twitter, turn over Trump’s private messages on the social platform. The company failed to comply and was held in contempt and fined $350,000.
The ruling from a U.S. appeals court has raised serious concerns about Americans’ First Amendment rights. (POLL: Is Joe Biden Fit to be President? Results Are In…)
“Under the circumstances, the court did not abuse its discretion when it ultimately held Twitter in contempt and imposed a $350,000 sanction,” the ruling said.
Trump told supporters that the Justice Department “secretly attacked my Twitter account, making it a point not to let me know about this major ‘hit’ on my civil rights.”
Republicans say the criminal indictments against Trump are politically motivated and constitute election interference as Trump is the 2024 Republican Party frontrunner.
Trump was also indicted on 37 charges related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents. Biden allegedly told U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate Trump and Merrick proceeded by appointing Smith in November 2022 to the case.
If Trump wins the 2024 presidential election, he has vowed to fire Special Counsel Jack Smith who is leading the investigation into Trump’s alleged improper retention of classified records. (Trending: Disney Just Pulled A Bud Light…)
A Trump campaign spokesperson said, “This is nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their Department of Justice to harass President Trump and those around him.”
“Deranged Jack Smith knows that they have no case and is casting about for any way to salvage their illegal witch hunt and to get someone other than Donald Trump to run against Crooked Joe Biden,” the spokesperson added.
