President Joe Biden appeared to joke with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni by threatening her with the maiden name of First Lady Jill Biden.
The awkward exchange began with Biden insulting Irish people. He told Prime Minister Meloni, “I may be Irish, but I’m not stupid.”
“I just want you to know, I was raised in a neighborhood where I felt self-conscious my name didn’t end in ‘O,’” Biden said.
“And I want you to know I’m the only non-Italian named the man of the year by the Italian Society,” he continued.
“I was thinking about this… I deserve this award,” Biden said. “I married Dominic Giacoppa’s granddaughter. I want you to know that, OK? Be nice to me.”
Critics say Biden gestured threateningly with his hands “as if channeling his inner Vito Corleone,” according to Western Journal.
Biden is accused of advancing racial stereotypes and causing division. “Biden has never met a culture or race that he hasn’t stereotyped,” one person responded.

Biden has been at the center of numerous awkward exchanges in recent months with world leaders.
In the U.K., Biden caused a stir when he appeared to breach royal protocol by touching King Charles III during an arrival ceremony at Windsor Castle. A Buckingham Palace source told People Magazine that Biden did not breach protocol and said the King was “entirely comfortable.”
Nevertheless, King Charles seemed to lose his cool after Biden spent too much time engaging in conversation with one of the Welsh Guards at the castle.
Charles attempted to hurry Biden along at one point and later snapped and gestured at the guard after the president moved along.

Just one week earlier, Biden met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Biden seemed to mumble incoherently during the visit, which raised eyebrows and began trending on social media.
