An investigative report from Western Journal found that far-left “Squad” member Cori Bush was married in a secret wedding.
The outspoken anti-police Democrat, who has regularly called for “defunding the police,” is accused of hypocrisy after marrying her personal bodyguard, Cortney Merritts. Even worse, financial filing documents showed Rep. Bush spent a staggering $30,00 on personal security in just the first quarter of 2021.
This immediately sparked widespread speculation of corruption since a significant amount of Bush’s campaign funds were paid to her new husband. The NY Post also found that Merritts does not possess a private security license.

She has spent a grand total of $627,088 on security, according to the financial documents.
This begs the question: Why are elite Democrats hypocritically calling for defunding the police while spending hundreds of thousands on private security?
In reality, the data shows that dismantling or defunding of police merely hurts the poorest and most vulnerable among us — and not the rich political elite.
Rep. Bush has been an outspoken supporter of violent riots in the wake of the Black Lives Matters movement. This has undoubtedly posed a massive security threat to millions of Americans. In private, Rep. Bush is shelling out thousands to ensure she has armed security nearby.

Rep. Bush appears to have kept her marriage a secret, only obtaining a marriage license a few days before the wedding.
This helped avoid scrutiny that Bush’s campaign finance records show she paid her new husband $62,359 directly in campaign funds in 2022 alone, mostly for security services.
NBC reported, “Marriage records filed with the St. Louis Recorder of Deeds show Bush signed her marriage license in a pact with Cortney Merritts on Feb. 11, a few days before their wedding.”

When asked about her spending on security, Bush double-down on her anti-police views by claiming without proof that police officers have threatened her.
“They would rather I die?” she asked rhetorically during an interview with CBS News. “You would rather me die? Is that what you want to see?” You want to see me die?”
“You know, because that could be the alternative,” she continued. “So either I spent $70,000 on private security over the last few months, and I’m here standing now and able to speak.”
“I have private security because my body is worth being on this planet right now,” she added. “I have private security because they, the white supremacist racist narrative that they drive into this country.”
“The fact that they don’t care that this black woman that has put her life on the line, they can’t match my energy first of all. This black woman who puts her life on the line. They don’t care that I could be taken out of here.”
“They actually probably are OK with that, but this is the thing: I won’t let them get that off. You can’t get that off. I’m going to make sure I have security because I know I have had attempts on my life and I have too much work to do. There are too many people that need help right now for me to allow that.”
There is speculation that Bush could face further scrutiny and a possible ethics committee investigation into whether there has been any corruption or violations.
