On Friday evening, an unarmed black man in Atlanta was fatally shot by police officers.

TMZ reports the police were called to a Wendy’s on University Avenue after complaints of a man had fallen asleep in the middle of the drive-thru.

Around 10:30 p.m., the police arrived and saw 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks asleep in his car.

“The other customers could still pick up their food, TMZ reports, “they just had to go around him to the window.”

According to the report, the officers conducted a field sobriety test that Brooks allegedly failed.

The man was stopped in a Wendy’s drive-thru, forcing other customers to drive around him. At this point, the officers attempted to arrest Brooks when he resisted.

A video taken at the scene shows the two officers unsuccessfully try to detain Brooks, wrestling on the ground for about 30 seconds. At one point, one of the officers brandishes a taser and attempts to use it but Brooks grabs it and gains control of it. The other officer pulls out a taser and successfully hits Brooks but it has no effect.

Brooks then stands to his feet and runs away from the two officers when he was shot three times in the back.

TMZ reports: “He was taken to a hospital where he died during surgery.”

Additional details surrounding the shooting are unclear. The GBI said one of the APD officers suffered minor injuries … he was treated at the hospital and released.

Several bystanders witnessed the incident and were enraged and yelled at the cops moments after the shooting.

The officers have reportedly been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Hill reports.

Per the report: “A Georgia state agency is investigating a fatal shooting involving an Atlanta police officer as protests rile the country over police use of force and systemic racism.”

“The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced Saturday that it was asked by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) to investigate the shooting of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks, who was shot by a police officer Friday night,” the report continued.

A video showing the events as they unfolded has been shared by several people online (Caution: The video shows the grapple with police and is somewhat graphic in nature. It does not show the gunfire):
