House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Thursday morning that the House of Representatives will move forward with impeachment articles against President Trump due to his “failure to faithfully execute the law.”

In clear language, Pelosi ordered House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to move forward with filing these articles to formally charge the president with committing a crime.

“The president leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt once again, the election for his own personal benefit,” Pelosi said per the Washington Examiner. “Today I am asking our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment.”

The California Democrat cited the constitutional scholars who appeared before the House Judiciary Committee yesterday as an additional reason to move forward with the articles.

“The facts are uncontested. The president abused his power for his own personal and political benefit at the expense of our national security by withholding military aid in a crucial Oval Office meeting for an announcement of an investigation into his political rival,” Pelosi said.

The report adds:

Pelosi’s announcement comes after weeks of public and private testimony from current and former Trump administration officials.

Pelosi did not describe the impeachment articles or the timeline, but Democrats have outlined a case that will likely center on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Democrats have been eager to finish impeachment “expeditiously,” and are hoping to vote on the articles before the House adjourns for the year on Dec. 20.
